Mandatory Fundraising/Volunteering

In light of the the rising costs of ice time and room rentals, as well as the need for our club to show a good level of fundraising to ensure we qualify for the BC Gaming Grant, the board of directors has decided to implement mandatory fundraising and volunteer hours for the 2025-26 skating season, like most clubs in BC already have. It is our hope that we can fundraise enough this year to be able to continue to subsidize club jackets, provide competition reimbursements, as well as the many other things the club provides throughout the skating season.

One of our biggest fundraisers is our Cash Calendar. Tickets, sold during December and January, are $20 each. During February a winner is drawn each day for a cash prize ranging from $50 to $500. Every ticket is placed in the draw for each of the 28 days, even if your ticket wins one day it goes back in for all the rest of the daily draws.

Each skater registered with the club during the Fall and Winter sessions will be required to purchase two tickets. These tickets can be kept by your family or can be sold to friends or family. Our fundraising coordinator will reach out in late November to facilitate getting your skater’s tickets to you. The $40 will be added to your cart during registration.

The mandatory fundraising requirement for CanSkaters is the purchase of two Cash Calendar tickets. Please watch your email in November for details about getting the tickets from our fundraising coordinator.

For skaters in group A to D the requirement is two Cash Calendar tickets plus 2 hours of volunteer time during one of our two bottle drives or one of our six dates selling Cash Calendar tickets. Skaters who help during CanSkate (PA or PA buddy) will get credit for one of their two volunteer hours. These volunteer hours will be tracked and are needed to be eligible for competition reimbursements later in the season.

Our first Bottle Drive is being held on Saturday, September 27, 10am to 2pm. Location to be announced soon but will hopefully be in the Canex parking lot (177 Belmont Rd). An online line signup will be posted soon. Group A to D skaters wanting to volunteer at this event need to sign up so their hours can be tracked.

Our second bottle drive will be held in late February.

The six dates for selling Cash Calendar tickets will be in December and January, at Westshore Mall or Mayfair Mall. Dates, times and locations to be announced in November.

Thank-you for your participation in supporting our club! Questions can be sent to fundraising@jdfskatingclub.com
