Figure Skating Program

Pre-Star Program (Group A)

Purpose: Pre-STAR bridges the gap between learn-to-skate(CANskate) and independent figure skating (STARSkate),fostering confidence and technique.

• Requirements: JDFSC coaches constantly assess the skaters in our CANskate program. Those who are wearing figure skates and/or express interest in figure skating will receive an invitation to try out the program when ready.

• Focus Areas: Lessons cover introductory figure skating elements including jumps, spins, stroking, and basic edges.

• Structure: Delivered as group lessons with professional coaches, sometimes integrated into the ‘Group B’ STAR sessions.

• Transition to STAR 1: Pre-STAR prepares skaters for the Skate Canada STAR 1 assessments, which is the first level in the Skate Canada STARSkate program.

Star Skate

Skills, Tests, Achievement, Recognition – this is what STAR Skate is all about!

STAR Skate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and interpretive skating.

Competitive Skate

Once a skater has progressed through the Star Skate System at the grass roots level the opportunity is there for the athlete to choose the Competitive stream vs. Star Skate.

Unique in Canada, this program teaches figure skating skills in a group and/or private lesson format in a progressive and sequential manner and includes specifically designed awards and incentives. Skaters have the opportunity to take Skate Canada tests through a nationally standardized testing system.

Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STAR Skate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating.
